Technetium Production

Technetium Production

Technetium is isolated from mixture of uranium 235U spontaneous nuclear fission products - nuclear wastes using ion exchange, precipitation and extraction with the following reaction yield: 6.06% 99Tc, 5.6% 101Tc and 4.3% 102Tc. The 2.8x105 kW reactor yields 3 kg Technetium annually. Neutron activation of high-purity molybdenum is a method of producing insignificant quantities amounts of 99Tc. Technetium metal is produced reducing its compounds (e.g. oxides, by hydrogen at 500-1000°C).
